Donating to the Humane Society
Please consider donating time, supplies, and/or funds. The Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan is a private, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, receiving no local, state, or federal funds to pay for operating expenses. We are not affiliated with—nor do we receive funding from—national organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States. Donations, grants, memorials, planned giving, service fees, and fund-raising efforts are our sole sources of income. We operate in a fiscally responsible manner to ensure that 100% of our donations benefit our animals.
As the only NO-KILL shelter in Berrien County, last year alone the Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan saved the lives of more than 400 cats and dogs. We rescue and re-home dogs and cats, provide services that educate the public concerning responsible pet ownership, and promote the health and welfare of cats and dogs in our community.
You can feel good about donating because we are a NO-KILL shelter that provides compassionate medical treatment in a loving environment while we search for a forever home for every adoptable animal.
The Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan would not exist without your generosity. Our animals do not choose to be abandoned. All they want is a home filled with love. The animals rely on us, but we must rely on you.
We strive to find a home for each adoptable animal, but some dogs and cats wait a long time before they are adopted. Your funds improve the quality of life for each animal that comes through our doors by providing warm bedding, nutritious food, toys, and vaccinations for preventable diseases. We cannot thank you enough for your support.
Please Give So They Can Live
Make a one-time or recurring monetary donation. No donation from a business or an individual is too small, because despite our efforts to contain expenses, costs continue to increase every day. We appreciate every donation and use every penny to benefit our animals.
Support Us in Your Estate Planning
Make a donation that lasts beyond your lifetime by including in your estate planning a donation to the Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan. Contact our executive director at 269.927.3303 for more information on planned giving.
Our wonderful volunteers enable us to keep the shelter open and also provide valuable assistance for many events that are critical to our fundraising efforts. By volunteering, you not only lend priceless support to a worthy organization but you also have the opportunity to meet new friends with shared interests in animal welfare.
So that you are comfortable in your role, we will also ask you to participate in an orientation, which is offered once a month. Take a look at our upcoming events for the next orientation and then call us at 269.927.3303 to let us know you are coming.
Our volunteer positions offer lots of variety that can make use of everyone’s talents. Call us at 269.927.3303 to discuss details.
We gratefully accept donations of many items that benefit our animals or assist us with operating the shelter. Clean out your cupboards, get rid of items you aren’t using, or stop by your favorite store and pick up an item or two for us. Ask your friends or family to make us a gift basket instead of buying you another present that may go unused. We are looking for office items, cleaning and pet supplies, items to enrich the animals’ environment, and miscellaneous items (who doesn’t need duct tape?). Our animals and our staff will greatly appreciate your donation!
